The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, has expressed its profound gratitudes to governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State for fulfilling his promise by paying off all charges that accompanied WAEC registration fees for candidates in Public Secondary Schools in the State.
The Examinations body made this known in Jalingo on Saturday at its West African Secondary School Certificate Examinations, WASSCE, 2026 briefing workshop organised to sensitise School Principals, Supervisors, and Invigilators on the conduct of this year’s examination.
The Taraba State Branch Controller of West African Examinations body, O.O. Agunbiade while addressing School Principals, Supervisors, and Invigilators on the need to have a successful conduct of examination this year, thanked governor Kefas for his kind gesture and revolutions in educational sector, noting that the governor has fulfilled his promises including the gift of a vehicle to WAEC office.
He said, “the governor of Taraba State has paid every dine that is to be paid for this year’s examinations. It is not only WAEC he paid for. He paid for NATEB, he paid for NECO.
“He also paid for the smooth running of the examination so that the examination is conducted without hitch. You may not understand what is happening now because of politics. If you go to most of the offices in Nigeria, you would find Yoeubas every where. Why? It is Because of the free education policy of Awolowo in those days. I benefitted from it.
“Today governor Kefas is offering that same free education to Taraba people.”

The Branch Controller described governor Kefas as one who “deserves our standing applause in the comity of governors,” revealing that the governor was the first and only one in Nigeria who has paid everything to WAEC body this year. He appealed to those close to governor Agbu to tell him that, “WAEC is grateful.”
Commissioner for Secondary, Technical and Vocational Education, Dr Augustina Godwin Yahaya at the occasion thanked all teachers for making governor Kefas’ free education mantra reality, appealing that more efforts be redoubled to make this year’s examinations a success as well.
“We administered free WAEC in 2024, 2025, it was successfully and we hope that even the one of 2026 will be a success.
“At this point I want to make a passionate appeal to all of you, I know during the Presentation, exam malpractice was mentioned, it is one of the things will give bad name. Please avoid exam malpractice at all cost. Allow these children to write on their own. The state government has paid it dues let them too play their part by studying hard to pass the exams,” she said.
