The Minister for State, Regional Development, Alhaji Uba Maigari, has dismissed the candidature of all opposition parties, stating that they have no political weight to defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State Re-elections bid in the 2027 general elections.
Maigari made the dismissal in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, after a robust stakeholders meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) members in Taraba State.
He made reference to the previous general elections, saying that most of the opposition candidates plotting to stop Tinubu and Kefas in 2027 contested in 2023 and lost handsomely. According to him, the recycle candidates have not done anything meaningful to convince the people to support them against the duo of Tinubu and Kefas.
“I can tell you for free that the victory in 2027 will be very loud. Look at the opposition candidates, apart from moving from one political party to the other, what have they done to make Nigerians want to vote for them? Nothing.

“The President on the other hand brought about strategic development in various sections of the system across the country. Is it in terms of physical infrastructure, education, health, human capital development, economic reforms? You just name it. So, he had prepared the ground for a sound victory in 2027,” he said.
The Minister also commended the State Governor Agbu Kefas for efforts he has put in place to ensure sustained unity and peace in the party and to ensure that all stakeholders are carried along and given a sense of belonging.
“Let me also put it on record that, all things properly considered, I am satisfied with the performance of the State Governor and I am sure it is good enough to guarantee his victory. As critical stakeholders, we would continue to guide him in the right direction so that, together, we can build the Taraba of our dream”.
He dismissed the insinuations that the ruling APC is using State institutions to harass opposition parties and candidates.
“State institutions are meant to function and work well and so when they engage people because they have genuine issues, I don’t think it is correct to reduce it to politics. People should be bold enough to face their issues. In APC, we are too advantaged and our victory is too assured for us to resort to intimidation and harassment,” he said.
