Taraba governor Dr Agbu Kefas has urged the newly sworn-in- appointees of the State government to justify the new responsibilities placed on their hands by helping to build strong and lasting institutions which define egalitarian society through selfless leadership and service delivery.
Governor Kefas gave the charge on Monday, at the Council Chamber, TY Danjuma House, in Jalingo, while swearing in a new Solicitor General of the State, members of the Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission (TSIEC), Local Government Services Commission, Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants and Special Assistants.
He described governance and leadership as “service delivery that demands accountability”, saying that any action taken while in public office has consequences in the long time to come.
He said, “your appointment is an honour, but more importantly, it is a call to duty.
“You are coming into public service at a time when our state is working to close long-standing gaps, strengthen institutions, improve service delivery, and respond to legitimate expectations of our people.The task is demanding.”
“Governance is not a place for spectators, nor is it an arena for personal entitlement. It is a serious work that requires judgement, discipline, courage patience, and a deep sense of responsibility.

“Many people observe the government from a distance and imagine that leadership is easy. But those who serve soon discover that every decision has consequences, every delay affects lives, and every failure of responsibility weakens public confidence. That is why l urge you to see yourselves first and foremost as builders.”
He further charged them to ensure that they build stronger institutions that ultimately outlive their tenure in office or one particular administration.
“You have not been appointed to occupy positions. You have been appointed to help build institutions that are stronger than individuals, more enduring than political seasons and more dependable than personal influence.
“A strong State is not built by one governor, one administration or one institution. It is built when everyone entrusted with responsibility performs his or her duty with sincerity, competence and integrity,” governor Kefas stated.
For the members of the Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission (TSIEC), governor Kefas challenged them to live above board by ensuring credibility and legitimacy in the conduct of electoral matters, while to the members of the Local Government Service Commission, the governor expressed his desires to see effective governance at the grassroot levels.
Similarly, the governor called on newly sworn-in- members of the Anti-Corruption Commission, and the Special Advisers to be prudent, diligent, and fair in the management of both human and State resources placed at their disposals, saying that Taraba State belongs to all Tarabans and as such they “must be firm, fair, and free from personal or political considerations,” as they assumed their new roles.
