Chief David Sabo Kente, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress APC Taraba state, on Thursday explained why he had turned down an endorsement offer from party faithful to contest the 2027 governorship election.
- Chief Kente also said the supporters offered to purchase the nomination form for him, stating their dissatisfaction with the governor Kefas led administration in the state.
Meanwhile, the former governorship aspirant explained that he was still consulting stakeholders for a right decision, and for the interest of the party.
He called on supporters to support president Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, to attract transformation to Taraba state.
“I am still making consultation to whether, to contest for the 2027 governorship election. I had asked my supporters, and APC loyalists who came to endorse and purchase the governorship form me to hold.
I am conscious of the fact that my zone has emerged the seat for third consecutive terms, and is expected to complete 16 years before another power shift. I understand their grieve over Kefas’ poor governance and neglect for old party members, but I have to ensure that party interest is considered before individual decision”. Chief Kente explained.
Kente expressed dismail over what he described as “Sole adminintratorship” governance of governor Agbu Kefas in the state.
“It’s unfortunate that what is happening in Taraba State is more of a sole adminintratorship, presiding over the affairs of a state under a democratic system of government. I call on party members to remain faithful and support president Tinubu to attract more development to Taraba”. Chief Kente stated.
NewDay reports that, over 500 APC members across 16 local government, including party officials have requested to endorse chief David Sabo Kente and purchase the governorship nomination form for him to contest the 2027 election.
The party members said, governor Kefas was running the state on a reverse point of collapsing, and needed to be rescued.
They also threatened to support any governorship candidate in other political party, if Chief Kente refuse to contest for the election.
“We will be compell to work and vote for any governorship candidate from other party if chief Kente refuse to contest for the election. We want a credible candidate that will rescue Taraba from the current mess.
“The governor Kefas led administration does not deserve support from any progressive minded citizens. We call on Tarabans to be sensitive and ensure decisive approach against Kefas second term bid”. The APC members declared.
